Sculptures by the Sea Cottesloe, Artistically Captured by Soul Gazing Photography

Cottesloe being one of the most photographed beaches in Australia will have plenty of cameras out for it's 14th Sculpture by the Sea exhibition kicking off tomorrow.

Hands up if your going to Sculptures by the Sea in Cottesloe this year?

For a lot of you who have been around Perth a bit, seeing sculptures is nothing new. They seem to be everywhere in small pockets around the city, adding some of the artworks on the buildings and you've got a city that has quite a creative element to it.

I think the beauty of this Western Australian capital evokes the inner artist in all of us. Whether it's the many pristine beaches that watch the sunset go by over the Indian Ocean, the natural dynamic landscape surrounding us or our scenic city that is reflected in the Swan River. Whatever it is theirs no excuse not to get out a lap it all up.

This is where I think the Sculptures by the Sea is excellent. With the high density of different artworks all striving for a place in Perth's most popular beach, the backdrop of the sunset shooting colours through the sky and the sea breeze keeping your body temp perfectly regulated, I say this is a must do in Perth for 2018.

Once I saw these glowing neon lights matching the colors in the sky, I had to create a  photograph that would draw the viewer in as much as it did when I saw it.

With more than 200,000 people visiting the free event, Cottesloe's Sculpture by the Sea has become one of the biggest annual sculpture events in the world. With this in mind you can imagine the sheer volume of crowds passing through your line of site. The caliber of local, national and international artists displaying their months and at times years long works in mind, it was my aim not to simply document the art but rather create my own artworks with the Sculptures as my subject. For this I went for a more creepy, retro and at times avant-garde/unorthodox approach.

Good news folks is through Tourism WA, the State Government has locked in Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe till 2020 since signing a new three year sponsorship deal with the exhibition's organisers. This event plays such a pivotal role in growing tourism numbers and jobs in WA. So guys please head on down, photograph it, post it and take some friends/family. This is one special event.
