Imperfect Action

Vintage Lens Portrait

Two words have stuck with me throughout this week "Imperfect Action". This is quite interesting for people in the realm of digital branding and content creation.

We focus on perfecting that frame and building visual elements to convey a message. In the process it's important to think about what the purpose is and action that.

As you grow and build you add important elements along the way, though had you not taken an imperfect action, you may not have begun your journey.

Take this image for example, during our photo-shoot I decided to pull out an item in my toolbox - a 45 year old lens (est. 1975). The lens in fact is what my grandfather had on his film camera. After getting it cleaned, pulled apart and put back together it was ready for testing.

My research revealed very positive information and examples of the images this lens could resolve when used properly so I decided to bring it along to my Jobs.

It is widely known that when you try and perfect something too much you lose your way and can sometimes miss the point. Some lenses of today resolve flat images with no character in the pursuit of removing flare, fringing and strange 'germ' like looking artifacts that can pop up in the frame.

My use for this lens has gone from minimal to often. The flares, the bokeh and character filled images is like adding the icing on the cake of our photo-shoots. In taking imperfect action with these photographs I have created some of my clients’ most favourite images.

Thank you Laura Inspire for the great term. "Imperfect Action"
