1. East Perth Waterfront
East Perth is one of the most stunning, elegant locations in all of Australia and while West Perth was named the best place on earth by SAS analytics this year, the East will forever have me captivated. As the sun rises faster than it sets, it became very clear that every second counted. One moment the sky is filled with lovely pastel colours and the next they're washed from sight and replaced with a bright blue canvas.
2. Mount Pleasant, The Esplanade, Rookwood Street
Walking along the esplanade through Mount Pleasant lays a special little wharf. It takes you from Rookwood Street onto the Swan River allowing you to see all the way up the river through to Raffles. I love this panorama for the wide angel of view you can get. Combining mostly water with enough greenery and the boats to lead you up the swan river towards the city. It was raining and stormy the whole way through which allowed for some dramatic scenery.
3. Manning Lake, Manning, Azelia Street
Trudging through the swamp fields for this panorama was well worth it. Using my tripod in one hand as my explorers stick, I poked the ground beneath me before each step. I felt as if I was walking on thin ice, with my camera in the other hand this was definitely a challenge but as with any challenge you grow, you learn and you give yourself the opportunity for something great!
This little lake is located in the middle of Manning Park. For my composition, I focused on finding interesting intersections between the trees and the lake. With my frame, I tried to invoke the lake being consumed by the forage. Those birds hanging off the dead trees in the background added another nice focal point of interest.
4. South Perth
South Perth offers the best view of the city. From here you are absolutely spoilt with the scenery encompassing all of the city from as far as your eye can see. The ferry comes across to Mends Street Jetty, one of the most beautiful ways to commute. With the river currents moving and a slight breeze I was able to capture the glassy reflection of the city with a painterly impression.
5. Cottesloe Beach
As I descended down the rocks closer to the ocean I saw a fin shaped object sticking out the water. My first thought was Dolphin, then it quickly changed once the body of the 'dolphin' did not bop out of the water. Shark I thought, no, I was certain! I moved on to quickly find my spot on the rocks with the crashing waves in mind. I wanted to make sure the rocks is where I'd be staying after seeing what I had. Camera out, composition set and waiting for the right time to capture the light I decided to take one more look over at the fin. What I found was a seal playing around with its food, as they do.
That was a truly beautiful moment to be so close to this creature and watching it float with ease around the waves, It set the tone for the panoramic photography and offered me some entertainment as I waited for the light to sparkle on my scene.
